Lower School
In the Lower School, every day is an opportunity to see the world through new eyes.
We are committed to building a strong academic foundation, but we go deeper than just the basics; we are shaping hearts. This is a place of "joyful rigor," where hard work is celebrated and every child is known, loved, and challenged. From the first pledge of the morning to the final bell, we are pointing students Above—to God as the source of truth—and Beyond—to how they can love and serve their neighbors.

Lower School Overview
Walk through the Lower School hallways at Maranatha, and the energy is palpable. The playful discovery of those early years matures into hands-on projects, spirited discussions, and a deeper understanding of the world.
We believe that good readers lead to good writers, and curious minds lead to innovation.
Academic life here is a "carousel of many things," moving from language arts to Maker’s Space to PE and Design Thinking. We are proud to be recognized as "Best in State" for the most minutes read, a testament to our commitment to fostering a deep love of literacy. But we don't just read about the world; we engage with it. Through initiatives like the 1st-grade Mini-Market, 3rd-grade Innovation Hour, and 4th-grade Mini Economy, we give students the space to learn economic concepts and practice creativity.
Core & Specialist Subjects:
- Core: Bible, Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies.
- Specialist: Art, Innovation Hour, Library, Music, Outdoor Garden, PE, STEM .
- Signature Program: "Book Buddies," where Kindergartners and 4th graders team up to share their love of reading.
Our teachers view each student as a unique individual, created with purpose.
The Lower School faculty is a close-knit group that works together daily to hone their professional skills. But more than that, they genuinely care about who your child is becoming. They strive to learn more about them as people every day, ensuring that whether a student is cracking a code in a STEM lab or learning to be a good friend on the playground, they feel seen and valued.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten at Maranatha is where learning and fun collide. Students are surrounded by teachers who know and love them, a safe campus, and a learning environment that prepares them for graduation into lower school.
Kindergartners have a deep joy for life, and we tap into that as they go about their academic day in math, reading, art, STEM, and more. Students also have PE and daily recess on our new playground and Inspire Field, so they have every chance to be kids and have fun.
Your child’s kindergarten teachers aren’t just experts; they’re role models who come alongside their students daily. Our teachers put in considerable time and effort to make sure each student is welcome and has a special place in their class.
We love the joy, energy, and passion that our kindergartners bring with them every day. We’ve built a kindergarten program made just for your child that makes sure they not only receive the academic knowledge and skills needed to be successful in lower school but that that is done in an environment where they are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from failure, and have fun along the way.
Kindergarten students attend weekly chapels, have a dedicated Bible class where they learn a Bible verse and sign for every letter of the alphabet, and are taught each subject from a Biblical worldview. Students showcase their Bible verse memory skills and signs at the end of the year during our Kindergarten graduation.
Kindergarteners have a genuine love for the people and world around them. We provide opportunities throughout the year for our kindergartners to be the hands and feet of Jesus as they reach out to our communities and help those in need. Kindergartners participate in a service project with the MN Humane Society and even write cards for Veteran’s Day and May Day for nursing home residents.

Faith Formation
Faith formation here is intentional. Our days always begin with pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag, the Bible, and prayer. Students attend weekly chapels and have dedicated Bible classes where every subject is taught from a Biblical worldview. We also foster mentorship through our High School Discipleship Groups, where older students adopt a Lower School classroom to serve as positive role models.
We instill a genuine caring that impacts their lives and the world around them.
We want our students to have a "Christian world-do mindset." We give them hands-on opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus, such as writing Valentine's Day letters to widows or knitting squares for blankets given to children in hospitals and orphanages, teaching students that they are never too young to make a difference.
